The latest innovation in cosmetics is the new breed of long-lasting lipsticks. The 1997 Weddings Annual puckers up and takes a look at the products in this enduring market.
Relatives, best friends, and, of course, your new husband will want to kiss you on your big day. While properly applied lipstick should last reasonably well throughout the day, it is always advisable to carry powder and lipstick to maintain your beautiful bridal look.
But leading make-up houses are now offering lipsticks with more lasting appeal, many of which claim to be transfer-resistant.
17's sister brand, No 7, offers Colour Lock in 25 shades. This creamy
lipstick, priced at £4.25, contains a 'Cationic Resin' which acts as a
magnet to attract the colour to lips.
Revlon says its lightweight Colourstay Lipcolour wont's kiss and tell.
Available in 30 shades from a hint-of-colour Nude to bold Cherry and
Poppy reds, Colourstay boasts that its breakthrough technology provides
feather-proof, fade-proof, kiss-proof lipstick.
Priced £7.95 Revlon recommends that Colourstay is applied to dry, clean lips and says it sets in 60 seconds with no need to blot.
A velvety smoothness and astounding staying power are promised by
Lancome's new Rouge Idole. It contains a silicon oil which eases
application. Plant extracts soothe and moisturise while another oil
holds the pigments to the lips. Rouge Idole comes in eight shades from
a gentle beige to scarlet and is priced at £13.50.
Hypoallergenic cosmetic specialist Almay offers Amazing Lasting Lipstick
which promises up to six hours of wear with a formula that will not
feather or bleed. Clinically, dermatologically and allergy tested, the
product contains vitamins A and E to moisturise the lips plus Aloe
extract to condition the skin. Available in ten shades of smooth matt
finishes, it is priced £6.95.
L'Oreal Colour Endure Stay-On Lipcolour has enjoyed a great deal of attention since launching earlier this year.
Designed to be smudge-proof, fade-proof and kiss-proof, it is formulated from concentrated pigments and special oils. The manufacture claims it will stay true for up to five hours even after kissing and eating Polymers and jojoba oil condition the lips and avoid dryness.
L'Oreal recommends applying Colour Endure in one stroke and then leaving it to set for 60 seconds. Priced £10, it is available in 25 colours.
Clinique's new Long Last Soft Shine claims it will protect and smoothe
lips as well as hold its colour. Priced £10, it is available in 18
shades.
New from Boots' popular 17 brand is Colour Renew Lipstick in 12 modern shades. Priced at £2.55 it promises to give up to ten hours performance by using a formula which reloads the lips with colour. To renew your lipstick, you simply press your lips together and release an extra boost of colour. The prduct contains moisturising agents plus UVA/UVB filters.
But whatever lipstick you choose, remember to try the product well in advance of the wedding to make sure you like the colour and the formulation.
