Our Band

Vie'Lectrique are an exciting dynamic band playing jazz-funk led by the wizardry of electric violinist Kathy Heslop. The only band of its kind in London, they are making their mark on the music scene and receiving critical acclaim.

Last year Kathy made her debut at London's Ronnie Scotts with New Yorker Penelope Tobin for one week. Kathy and her band have also recently performed at Warwick, Edinburgh and Bath festivals as well as over 150 West End performances including the Cafe Royal.

The repertoire of the band is varied and not only incorporates a large proportion of original compositions but also, songs from artistes such as Sade, Sting, Simply Red, George Michael, Miles Davis, Ronny Jordan, Kenny G and Shola Ama etc.

Vie'Lectrique mainly perform as a trio with electric Violin, piano/keyboards and drums. They reduce to a duo for very small engagements and enlarge to a quartet adding a bass for contemporary dance music.

The violin Kathy uses is a five string "Violectra" of which there are only 75 in the world. The hand carved instruments are also owned by Nigel Kennedy, Jean-Luc Ponty and the quartet of Oasis.

Kathy uses effects processors to add warmth to the sound and to achieve guitar sounds. Delay, Harmonisers, Wah Wah are all effect that the Violin works perfectly with thus helping it into the ranks of the more traditional Jazz-funk lead instruments.

Kathy is increasingly in demand as a session player for both live and recording work.

David-Joseph Brown is an outstanding pianist and composer. He is also responsible for the band's orginal compositions. This year he is busy writing music for film, tv and the new Vie'Lectrique album.

Mark Lloyd, studied Jazz drums at The Royal Academy of Music and since graduating has appeared at all London's major Jazz venues with prestigous players including Tim Garland and recently at the 606 with Jazz musician of the year finalist, Paul Booth.

All the band members are working as session musicians and between have appeared all over the UK as well as USA, Canada, France, Sweden, Holland and Spain.
