Elspeth Smellie is a harp player, singer and composer.

1983-1986 Member of WHEELANS, Borders traditional band.
1983 Edinburgh Festival Fringe: performed music in SHORES AND STREETS.

1985 Ettrick Shepherd's Festival: composed & performed music for KILM.
1987 Borders Festival: composed & performed for THE WIZARD LADY OF BRANXHOLM.
1987 Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh: THE WIZARD LADY OF BRANXHOLM.
1988 THE CELTIC FESTIVAL (St. Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh).
1989 Borders Festival: composed & performed for Allan Massie's THE MINSTREL
AND THE SHIRRA.
1989 Rideout Theatre Company: composed the music for THE MIRROR.
1990 Mull Little Theatre: composed & performed in LOVE, ADVENTURE AND MAGIC.
1990 Edinburgh Festival Fringe: LOVE, ADVENTURE AND MAGIC.
1990 Composed the music for the Rideout Theatre Co's THE CARLIN MOTH.
1991 Rideout Theatre Co: her music used in NETHER WORLDS AT NEIDPATH.
1991 Edinburgh International Festival: THE MINSTREL AND THE SHIRRA.
1991 Borders Festival of Ballads & Legends: produced, directed, composed the music & performed in A SONG FOR YARROW.
1991 Composed & performed the music for LADY JOHN SCOTT.
1992 Holy Island, Arran: composed & performed for the ecumenical consecration.
1992 Rideout Theatre Co: composed the music for BORDER TAPESTRY.
1992 Callanwolde Arts Centre, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.: THE MINSTREL &
THE SHIRRA.
1992 Simpson's of Piccadilly, London: played for Borders Promotion Week.
1992 Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh: THE MINSTREL AND THE SHIRRA.
1993 Invited to play at the celebrations for the Dalai Lama's Visit to Scotland.
1993 Became part of the newly-formed band O'ER THE BORDER, playing at the
Borders Piping Festival in Galashiels.
1993 Rideout Theatre Co: composed & performed the music, acted in BRIDGES, and
in the sequel BRIDGING THE TWEED for the 1994 Tweed Festival.
1994 O'ER THE BORDER at Crewe & Nantwich festival; Lichfield Music festival;
in Zurich, Switzerland, and various other events throughout the Borders.
1995 Tron Theatre, Glasgow, MINSTREL AND THE SHIRRA.
1996 'ECHOES OF THE ETTRICK' for Borders TV.
1996 FOLKEST '96 in N.E. Italy and Croatia, with O'ER THE BORDER.
1997 Formed the all-women trio B*E*L.

Elspeth is a trustee of the SCOTTISH TRADITIONAL MUSIC TRUST, founded in 1993 to promote the traditional music of the Borders & Scotland. She also performs in primary schools in the Borders with SANGS AND CLATTER, 3 women musicians who sing and perform Scottish songs, stories and poetry as part of an educational programme for The Borders Regional Council. Throughout the year Elspeth plays the Scottish Harp, sings at & composes for concerts, weddings, private functions, conferences, etc.
