The historic 18th-century hotel is set in beautiful woodland and lakes, and adjoins the Battlefields of 1066. This was once the centre for the gunpowder works which operated for over two hundred year and produced the finest gunpowder in Europe.
Now, log fires and richly decorated rooms create a personal welcome in keeping with a traditional English country house hotel.
Most rooms are spacious and all individually furnished, many with antiques. There are sumptuous four-poster bedrooms, one or two allegedly haunted by the Lady in White.
The Orangery Restaurant, with its colonial-style seating, enormous plants and marble floors, offers modern English cooking, and has won many accolades and awards.
Guests can enjoy peaceful walks through scenic woodland trails, which are a naturalists delight, relax by the pool or terrace overlookingt the well-tended gardens or try fishing in the specimen lakes. In summer, a rowing boat with champagne picnic may be taken out on the 7-acre specimen lake.
The hotel has a wedding licence too, and its elegant rooms and sweeping gardens provide the perfect setting for a country house wedding.
